Chris Mello was an outstanding student and accomplished athlete at Rye High School. After his passing on September 11, 2001, a special scholarship fund was established by Chris’ father, Douglas Mello, with the help of family and friends, in memory of Chris and his love of sports. Each year, a member of both the Rye and Harrison football teams is awarded this scholarship at the annual Harrison-Rye game. The scholarship recognizes sportsmanship, competitiveness, academic achievement and leadership, all traits Chris exhibited.
Fifty scholarships have been awarded since 2002.
